Belt driven laser cutting machines are widely used for a variety of cutting applications. The machines comes in table sizes, choice of laser types and power levels, and configurations. The most widely sold laser machines on the market are belt drive systems, for their ability to do the job at the lowest cost.
Belt drive machines are the fastest drive mechanisms. The belt is lightweight and can move a gantry or laser focus head at high speed. Over time, the belt may stretch and require replacement or tightening to get back to the original accuracy.

This CO2 laser provides the highest precision available for belt drive machines, employing servo motors, German made linear rails. The laser provided is an imported metal tube laser providing radio frequency power adjustment for maximum laser power output precision.

Belts are used to transfer motion from the motor to the gantry and laser focus head. Belts respond immediately to the motor and can provide high speed motion. The laser can cut and pulse at high speeds as well, making it a good match for belt drives. The belts, typically rubber molded around a high strength fabric like Kevlar (registered Dupont), take a long time to stretch. In some machines there is built in room for adjustment to tighten the belt. In other machines, the belt is simply replaced.
Lead screws are more precise, and precise over time than belts, though their speed is much slower and cost higher.
